| How
you can help ?
The
Siddhi Memorial Foundation is a non-governmental, non-profit, charitable
organization. A small fee is charged for outpatient services, medication,
and activities at the Siddhi Shaligram Briddhasram, however all fees are
waived for those who cannot afford them. There is no charge for inpatient
services. The SMF is presently funded by the generous donations of interested
people and organizations, both local and international. In addition to
the support received from donors, the Siddhi Memorial Hospital is heavily
reliant on research funds, which will come to a halt with the conclusion
of our latest study in September, 2007. Donations are placed in both the
Recurrent Expenditure Account and the Endowment Fund.
The
Recurrent Expenditure Account
This account will be used for the year-to-year maintenance and running
of the Foundation, until the Endowment Fund has reached its goal and can
support the Foundation’s costs. Each withdrawal from this account
must have both signatures of the founder and the member secretary or the
treasurer. Each cash donation of less than NRs. 50 000 (approx. $US 700)
will be deposited in this account.
The
Endowment Fund
The Endowment Fund is a Term Deposit Account with the purpose of sustaining
the running of Siddhi Memorial Foundation. When the goal of this account
is reached, the interest will be used to support the "day-to-day"
costs of the Foundation including staff salaries, kitchen expenditure,
medical and surgical products, medications, electricity, water, phone
and Internet bills and other goods required to maintain the Foundation.
The goal for the fund is NRs 40 000 000 (approx. US $ 570 000) by the
year 2007 to provide interest which will sustain the Foundation at that
time. Currently the account stands at NRs 30 000 000 (approx. US $ 400
000). Every donation greater than approx. US $700 will be deposited
in this account, if it is the wish of the donor.
Equipment
Donations
Medical Equipment donations can be mailed to Siddhi Memorial Foundation
but please email Shyam S. Dhaubhadel regarding a list of needed stores
and customs instructions before sending. The SSB is also in need of
a mini-van which would allow its participants to access the facility
and to participate in field trips. The cost of such a van would be approximately
USD$ 30,000.
Please send details of any donations made to Shyam Sundar Dhaubhadel
by fax or email (see contact details) and forward any queries. Thank
you for your assistance which will be greatly appreciated by the people
of Bhaktapur, Nepal.
Training
Opportunities
The
SMF has always made it a priority to hire its staff from the Bhaktapur
area. As the hospital services have expanded, the need for specialists
has increased. The SMF would like to encourage its donors and supporters
to help finance the education of one of its doctors, so that he or she
may complete the necessary training to become a pediatrician. The SMF
is also seeking to train other specialists.
Friends
of SSB
If
you would like to contribute to the SSB, then we suggest that you become
a Friend of SSB. As a friend of SSB we welcome you
to join the SSB family that exists to help the neglected elderly people
of Bhaktapur live with dignity and hope. Friends of SSB are welcome
to make financial contributions and to specify that they would like
the money to go towards the SSB. Friends of SSB, from within Nepal and
abroad, are also encouraged to volunteer at the SSB. We are looking
for people who are eager to spend time with our participants, and who
would like to assist in the operation of the facility. We are also looking
for skilled volunteers with experience in geriatrics, physiotherapy
and nursing.
Friends
of SSB are also invited to participate in our exciting new Adopt
A Parent program. Participants will get to make a meaningful
impact in the life of a Bhaktapur citizen living at home. Participants
must make a minimum donation of NRs. 60,000 per year, and must make
a commitment of a least one year. In exchange, participants will receive
letters, updates and photos from their adopted Bhaktapur parent. This
is a really great opportunity to see what a big difference your contribution
can make!
